i'm a picker i'm a grinner i'm a lover i'm a sinner

oh. my. god. i haven't had that much fun in years, maybe ever. my face hurts from grinning, my head hurts from drinking (two beers, my first hangover, seriously), my throat hurts from screaming/singing and my legs hurt from dancing. my heart and spirit and ego don't hurt a bit. not one little bit.

here's how it all went down. b came over at about 5.15 and we took my car up to the shoreline. we went to will call and picked up our tickets (including special vip stickers), doinked around trying to figure out which line to get in, got patted down and finally met up with lisa. she took us back stage, showed us all the free food, took us to the steve miller band lounge, showed us the scaffolding next to the stage where we could watch the show and set us free to explore. we couldn't stop grinning and saying "oh my god, can we really...? can you believe this...?" i'm sure we looked like complete yokels.

we went and got drinks in the outdoor backstage bar (jack & cokes, really classy, us) then went to the miller lounge which was two main rooms with couches and tables with food and giant coolers with drinks, plus wine, champagne, and hard liquor all bearing steve miller's name. there was also a bowl of homemade hummus with saran wrap that read "steve miller's hummus." you know i took a picture of b holding it. each coffee table also had giant lindt bars of extra dark chocolate and yes, we're the chocolate people. there were also tune up and dressing rooms, a special massage room and random instruments lying around like no big thing.

then shared a rare ahi steak, mashed potatoes, stuffed mushrooms, green beans, tiramisu and ... $10 beer! lisa introduced us to several of the doobie brothers (tom johnston, john mcfee, pat simmons, and skylark and their wives and kids. we watched their show from our fantastic seats, front and center. awesome. seriously awesome.

they played for about an hour and a half and we sat/danced riveted except for a couple of backstage bathroom breaks (more beer) that were as much to remind us we were vip's as anything. without consulting each other b and i both took our own pictures peeing/washing up, 'cause well, ya know...

there was a short break and lisa took us to steve miller's tour bus where everyone was warming up and damn if there weren't little bowls of dark chocolate in there. he shook our hands and said "wow, it's really nice to meet you b" like no big thing. we also met billy peterson, kenny lee lewis and joseph wooten. (norton buffalo is my uncle - lisa's husband). we watched them perform from backstage and our seats both. more awesomeness. more bathroom breaks. a bar and a half of dark chocolate dipped in beer.

both bands did what all bands should do, they played all the songs we came to hear. AWESOME. did i mention it was awesome? and yes, it was lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey all the time. we had an excellent time. there isn't a single place on earth (with anyone else) i would've rather been - not even venice! ha! and i'm serious. how do ya like them apples?

we got home at 12.45, had dinner at 1.45, fell asleep at 3.00, and somehow, miraculously, the kids (and therefore i) slept until 10.45. woot.

pictures tomorrow when they've been developed!!!
